Is Girth More Important Than Length?

We figure out once and for all what's preferred in a penis: girth or length.

We've been told size matters our whole lives. Whether we're women worrying about whether or not our breasts are big enough to be deemed attractive or we're men worrying about whether the size of our penis is adequate, we as humans tend to always be worrying about size. When it comes to penises, length is talked about ad nauseam. Despite culture makes it seem like length is the only thing that matters there is another measurement to consider: girth.

So what is girth?

First of all, what's girth? So glad you asked! It's just another way of saying "circumference" or how wide around a penis is. One of those grocery store hot dogs would be a smaller girth while a sausage would be a bigger girth. You get the idea!

We'll also add, before we jump into more specifics about length and girth, that the only measurement that really matters is an erect measurement. A lot of guys are "growers not showers," and what this simply means is that their flaccid penis is not necessarily large. But who cares about a flaccid penis, right? Guys, try not to worry too much about if your penis starts off on the small side. After a little foreplay from your partner you'll start to get bigger and harder and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Why does length matter?

This is a good question and you know what, we're not entirely sure that it does. That is to say, as long as your penis is long enough to penetrate a woman's vagina, that's all that really matters. There are medical anomalies of very small penises, often called "micropenises," where members are so small they have trouble penetrating a vagina.

Many men are convinced that they're on the small side or that they have a micropenis We promise that these are rather rare! In fact, to be considered a micropenis, you would need to have a penis length of less than 2.5 inches when erect.

So now you're feeling comforted in knowing you do not have a micropenis. Great! Here is another fact to make you feel even better: the average penis length, when erect, is approximately 5 to 6 inches. Yes, there are men with longer penises out there and yes there are men with shorter penises, but most of the population falls within the average. This means that there is no need to worry about whether you are "long enough" or how you measure up to any potential "competition." When it comes down to it, penis length is great for stimulating the vagina. In case you were not aware, it makes a heterosexual woman feel really great to have a penis in her vagina. There are some nerve endings along the vaginal wall and a penis of a good length can be really great at stimulating that.

You don't want to be too long.

A certain length is great, but it is possible for your penis be "too long." In fact, the average penis is already a bit longer than the average vagina so there is no need to worry about needing to be "extra long" to fill her entirely. It is also quite common for super long penises to be somewhat painful. A long penis can hit against the cervix really hard and that usually does not feel the best. Often it can be a bit tight and uncomfortable. As well, if you are so long that you are unable to completely thrust in or have to be careful how hard/far you can thrust for fear of hitting the cervix to hard, it can really kill the mood.

If that hasn't convinced you yet, in a recent study, women were asked to pick out what length penis they preferred in a man and overwhelming most women chose a penis approximately 6 inches in length when erect. This falls within the average penis size which means that women are generally most attracted to average penises!

So what about girth then?

Girth is pretty important for a penis. In fact, when asked to pick between length and girth, women tend to say that girth is more important. Yes, it's true! In fact, numerous scientific studies have been done and women almost always go with girth being more important. Why? It's hard to know exactly for sure but is likely because there are generally more nerve endings at the entrance of the vagina than on the inside. This means that the most important place to be applying pressure and stimulation is at the vagina entrance. A penis that is a little wider or thicker does a much better job at stimulating than a penis that is thinner.

But wait, there's more!

We just finished saying that women would almost always pick girth over length when asked about it but here's an even more interesting fact: while those who did have a preference would almost always pick girth over length, most women said that both girth and length were either "unimportant" or "very unimportant" when it comes to sex.

So why would women not care so much about girth or length? We have some ideas why that we are going to list below:

1. It's not the size of your dick, it's how you use it.

This is so true! Almost every woman on the planet will jump at the chance to agree. If you don't know what you're doing in bed and don't know what to do with your penis, it doesn't matter if it's wide, thin, long, or whatever.

2. So just how do you "use" it?

Using your penis well first involves knowing your penis well. Get to know its strengths and weaknesses. If you are on the shorter side, figure out ways that you can still vaginally stimulate your partner. If you are longer or thicker, the same goes for you too. Think of your penis like a tool that you need to learn how to wield for maximum pleasure results.

3. It also depends on your partner.

As much time as you are spending getting to know how to use your rod, you should be devoting to getting to know your partner's body. What do they like having stimulated? What turns them on the most? Different sexual preferences means different sexual styles and different ways to use your penis. Make sure to communicate with them to figure out exactly what they want and how you can best give that to them. And the same goes in reverse, of course: make sure they know what you like too!

4. Get crafty with angles.

Do you know what the g-spot is? It's okay, not a lot of people do! And even fewer know where it is. The g-spot is a very sensitive spot on the upper front wall of the vagina. It's rather tricky to hit it from missionary position. Most women say that the perfect angle to really get at it is from behind. And guess what: it doesn't matter what size your penis is for hitting the g-spot. Once you know where it is and how to best stimulate it, you're good to go.

You can also try other angles to make the most of whatever size and shape your penis is. Try having her pull her legs up to her chest or even further if she's that flexible! This is a great way for a smaller penis to really get in there deep and offer some incredible vaginal stimulation. Doggy style is another favorite position that feels great for both the man and the woman. Another position that feels great and all penis sizes can benefit from is having the woman on top.

Lastly, we can't forget the lap position. This is where the man sits up with his legs out in front and the woman sits on his lap facing him with her legs on either side of him. This is an incredible position for hitting the g-spot and especially great for smaller penises.

5. Sex is more than just intercourse.

When it comes to sex, often women might not care about penis size so much is because there is way more to sex than just straight-up intercourse. A lot of what goes into making sex awesome is who you're having sex with, foreplay, passion, and feeling comfortable. If you are able to make your partner feel great and orgasm and they are able to do the same for you, then what does it matter what your size is?

So what matters more, girth or length?

Honestly, we don't think either! Yes, in the studies women did tend to go for girth over length, but even more so they said that they don't particularly care about either. It's a major flaw in society that we are so hung-up on size and it's something that needs to change. Having a giant monster dick isn't necessarily the best thing in the world and it also doesn't automatically make you a good lover. Most women know this and it's time for guys to get on board too!

It's all about confidence.

Women also almost always say that the best lovers they have are the most confident ones. Confidence will always outshine any sort of size or shape. It's also super attractive! If you're not "all there" in the size department, find other ways to get confident. Learn how to give incredible head. Get your foreplay game on point. Take time to find the spots on her body that make her squirm. Go for the positions that best compliment your bodies. After that she won't even notice the size of your penis.

It's also about listening and learning.

Confidence can be hard, we know. Especially for such a sensitive subject. But all it takes is some practice and an open mind and willingness to learn. We say a "willingness to learn" because oftentimes people don't do a great job at listening to their partners for what feels good. You may THINK you're a great lay but are you really? We said above that confidence is one of the most important traits in a lover. But don't let your confidence make you blind to learning new tricks or listening to what your partner wants. Undeserved confidence is almost worse than no confidence at all! Take time to genuinely figure out the best ways to pleasure your partners. Ask questions. Listen to their reactions. Watch their reactions too. Figure out exactly what is good and what is bad. We're pretty sure that any "techniques" you picked up in movies or porn can be tossed right out the window because the real world is totally different, trust us.

And there you have it. The length and girth of your penis can and do have an effect on how good a lover you are but overwhelmingly these three things are way more important when it comes to having incredible sex: 1. How you use your penis, and the rest of your body too. Know your angles and understand how you can make your penis work best for you and your partner. Small can also be mighty! 2. Having confidence in all aspects of the bedroom, from foreplay to intercourse. It does take practice but eventually you'll get there. Trusting in yourself truly does make a difference! 3. Be willing to listen and learn from your partner. Some of the best lovers are the ones that actually pay attention to their partners instead of getting stuck in their own heads. You might think what you are doing feels amazing, but does it actually? Only your partner can tell you that!

We hope this helps you feel more comfortable and confident in the bedroom!
