Best Times To Go Out

liverpool03

This is up to you in terms of what the feel of your date needs to be. Liverpool has enough to keep you dating all through the week, be it during the day, evening, night, or even the small hours. Many bars and night clubs close their doors at 2 or 3 AM, but don't let that discourage you from staying out a little longer for a stroll -- just steer clear of the water if you've had a few drinks. Think office hours if you want something a little more staid, and cleave to the museums and galleries that make this city one of the most refined and well known cities in the North of England. Parks and cathedrals, and of course the docklands, are open all the time, so if you simply want a walk or would like to extend your hang by tacking on a romantic stroll, consider one of these out of hours options. For other venues, timing is of the essence, so check websites if you need to book ahead or get tickets. time it right, and you can really get the most out of the city by mixing and matching date venues in a smart way!

Brief Description
Food and drink in a gay basement bar is the way we start our list of Liverpool date ideas to make you and your date fall into each other's arms with sheer exhaustion and pleasure. A beautiful curlicued ceiling is one of the main features of this place -- but don't get yourself tired out from staring at a ceiling just yet... A trad bar that is anything but stuffy, you and your date will feel welcomed and included by a happy staff and friendly clientele. There are few places as well known through the city for their welcoming atmosphere and acceptance of all kinds of people, so stop in at the Lisbon if you and your date want to canoodle without getting an unappreciative glance, which still happens believe it or not even in this day and age. At the Lisbon, you will feel as though the world and their brother is on your side -- and they are! One of our faves on the list, this place is totally FAB.

Beatles Story

Type
Beatles museum
Space
Popular museum on the docks
Crowd
All ages, from young but typically 30s to middle aged and over
Address
Albert Dock, Liverpool
Website
Any Notes
Free parking can be found
Brief Description
Speaking of FAB, no visit to Liverpool is complete without a trip to the city's fave museum, Beatle Story. The city's best known sons are homaged at this very well maintained museum right on the docks. If you or your date love the Beatles, or if you even have a passing interest in them, or failing that just an interest in the history of the city, this venue is worth a look, and you might be surprised how much time you can spend wandering around the exhibits. You will be in for a treat for the senses as you listen, read and watch the various attractions in the Beatles Story. Follow the exploits of John, Paul, George, and Ringo from their humble start to the rise through the world of famous musicians to take their places as the kings of pop. You can even pick up a map to the locations around the city that were important to the Fab Four, from real life places like Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane to the homes of the Beatles themselves, such as the now famous Menlove Ave where John Lennon grew up.

International Slavery Museum

Type
Musuem dedicated to slavery in all its forms
Space
Huge, imposing, historic subject
Crowd
All ages!
Address
Albert Dock, Liverpool
Website
Any Notes
Plenty of parking for all people.
Brief Description
This place should be at or near the top of anyone's list of must sees in the city, for its subject matter alone, especially in our recently unenlightened times... It's right next to the Beatles Story, so you can fit both in on one date and still have time for dinner and a pint somewhere quiet afterwards. This is one of the most important museums possibly in the whole country, acknowledging as it does Britain's part in the slave trade whose effects continue to be felt today. A visit here would be a timely event considering the resurgence of racial tensions, especially in the US, so if you are visiting from the States we definitely recommend a visit; same if you or your date have any family ties or a relative who was affected by modern slavery. Bear in mind that this is a heavy subject, so pair with something a little more light hearted, such as following up with a meal or a movie, or even a romantic stroll through the city.

World Museum

Type
World museum
Space
World themed museum in an historic setting
Crowd
All ages are welcome
Address
William Brown St, Liverpool
Website
Any Notes
Open 10 AM - 5 PM
Brief Description
Science, tech, and natural history make up the bulk of the exhibits at the World Museum, one of the city's top choices for a day out. With live fish, moon rocks, and exhibits dedicated to the nature of time itself, the World Museum is a treasure trove of fascinating subjects. The name of this place says it all really -- this is indeed a museum of the whole world, as told through the medium of science and tech, those most impartial of filters. You will see so much here to marvel at, from robotics and space exploration to breakthroughs in medicine and innovations in engineering, transport, architecture, and even some flourishes of art and design. But the main draw for many folk who come through the doors of this grand museum is the building itself -- you may well feel a sense of awe as you approach the museum from the outside, as its columns and fluted arches really do inspire a sense of just how old and important this city has been to the British Empire. A big player on the world stage for many centuries, Liverpool has more history than you can shake a stick at, and places such as the World Museum building really do bring that home. A must see for any fan of the city, and for any dating couple that have even a small interest in science, technology, and the arts.

Walker Art Gallery

Type
Impressive art gallery
Space
Large art gallery
Crowd
All ages
Address
William Brown St, Liverpool
Website
Any Notes
Open 10 AM - 5 PM
Brief Description
Truly impressive art collection that just has to be seen to be believed. Art from the 14th century is one of the showcases here, which will leave you breathless. Pre-Raphaelite and Modern British art and sculpture feature heavily. Stroll along the galleries hand in hand with your date and enjoy the canvasses, sculptures and other installations created by masters on the world stage of the arts. As with the World Museum, the Walker Art Gallery is housed in a truly impressive old stack of bricks that has to be seen to be understood. Housed on the same street, this is another big old building that takes the breath away. This is surely one of the most photographed places in the city, and there is a good reason for that; one of the top museums not only in the city but in the whole of the UK, the Walker Art Gallery is a great venue for a really romantic date that you and your date will want to remember for a long time -- good thing that it provides so many photo opportunities!

Cavern Club

Type
Iconic club
Space
Music club in intimate setting
Crowd
College to middle aged
Address
10 Mathew St, Liverpool L2 6RE
Website
Any Notes
Street parking, no wheelchair access
Brief Description
Pair this with a trip to the docklands to see the Beatles Story and you have a very Liverpool date lined up. The great thing about the Cavern Club is that it is still a working music venue. It was closed for a while, which made very little sense given its position as the birth place of one of the most important music types -- not to mention bands -- the world has seen; lucky for you it is alive and kicking and hosting all new bands, as well as the much needed Beatles tribute acts which will have you feeling and thinking that you are back in the 60s about to witness the start of an incredible musical movement. A must for music fans who want a date that really rocks. This place gets a big thumbs up.

Brief Description
If you MUST go to a cinema, then go to THIS one. It is state of the art and has all the bells and whistles that make seeing a movie in theatres so much more enjoyable than it was in, say, the 80s. IMAX is the order of the day, which means that you will be getting the very best viewing experience. A real classic date, the kind your parents would have gone on, back in the day. Pair with a meal and a milkshake, and you'll be in 7th heaven.

Liverpool Watersports Centre

Brief Description
Located at the docks, the Liverpool Watersports Centre offers options from canoeing, paddleboarding and sailboating, to swimming back to your canoe, paddleboard or sailboat. Messing about with boats was the fave pass time of Ratty from Wind in the Willows, and if it's good enough for him, it is good enough for you and your date. If you are both strong swimmers and don't mind getting wet, give it a go!
